A database administrator (DBA) is the professional who manages the information technologies, being responsible for the technical, technological, scientific, business intelligence and legal aspects of databases and the quality of the information underlying in the data base.
Main functions:
- Implement, support and manage corporate databases.
- Create and configure the relational databases.
- Being responsible for the database integrity and availability.
- Design, deploy and monitor database servers.
- Design data distribution and storage solutions.
- Ensure the security of databases, perform backups and carry out disaster recovery scenarios.
- Plan and implement provisioning of data and applications.
- Design contingency plans.
- Design and create corporate databases of advanced solutions.
- Analyze and report corporate data that help decisión making in business intelligence.
- Produce relational entity diagrams and data flow diagrams, schematic normalization, logical and physical location of the database and table parameters.
Database administrators have competencies and capabilities in one or more database management systems, such as: Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, Oracle MySQL, Oracle Database, IBM Informix, SQL Anywhere.

- Accredited professionals in database administration and specific technologies.
- Performance of improvement tasks and problems solving at the levels of services involved.
- Design, planning, implementation and management of arqchitectures and infrastructures.
- Requirements engineering. Functionality and compatibility studies.
- Storage technologies. Coordination of racks, hardware and software platforms for operating system, storage cabinets, partitioning systems, data processing and communications center.
- Disaster recovery. Back up implementation and second back up data process center.
- Technology security.
- Ensure continuity of database services at all times (7 days a week, 24 hours per day)
- Perform hardware and software tests.
- Project management.
